they were in HUGEEE debt before THG, i think at least $600m. THG has a $262m domestic gross so far and is about to cross $400m globally, but it's still not enough.
lionsgate did buy summit recently though, which gave them the rights to "twilight". breaking dawn part 2 will probably be what puts lionsgate back in the black (making money instead of being in debt).
That's not a big deal. If it does well in those seven it may open to more.
Films open extremely limited then a little less limited and then a little wider all the time. It's a scheduling thing. We didn't get The Artist in my city until after the Oscars.
A lot of indie theatres only have two or three screens and they're going to go to Oscar contenders and festival winners. LOL got bought up by the studio before it had a chance to prove itself, so limited release is kind of a way for it to do that. And if it doesn't it'll still do most of its money in iTunes/Netflix/Hulu so it's still actually NBD.
i wish they'd stop treating these movies like they're gonna be so bad and give them a chance. the more you treat them like flops, the bigger they'll flop.
i mean, they kind of are releasing it like how most indie movies are released. well, actually, most don't even make it to any screens.
maybe this limited will grow into a wider release. it's happened before, i can see it happening with this. if not, well it'll make its money back on iTunes/DVDs/Netflix like most indies and gain more exposure through that.
i mean, working on this movie, i'd LOVE for it to have a wide-release, i am praying that there's a city within 2 hours of me that it'll be released in, but i get why that's not happening. i just don't get why they waited so long to release it in the first place.

They should just premiere it on ABC family lol and make it go straight to DVD, it could do well.
