Zac Efron signs on to a new film, "The Falling"

"Zac Efron and Akiva Goldsman are teaming up for a mystery supernatural project at Warner Bros. titled The Falling.

Efron will star in the film and produce via his Warners-based Ninjas Runnin’ Wild Productions and Goldsman's Weed Road banner. Also on board to produce are husband-and-wife team Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures.

Every effort is being made to protect the logline of the project, which is being described as an edgy thriller centering around an otherworldly being.

The idea originated within the studio, which then presented it Goldsman and Efron. Goldsman and Harold, the screenwriter who worked on Warners' upcoming Tom Cruise sci-fi movie All You Need Is Kill, then hammered out a story.

The producers will now undertake a search for a screenwriter to take Falling, which is a working title, to the next level of development.

Efron (CAA, Alchemy Entertainment, Felker Toczek) this week started shooting Parkland, a JFK drama that counts Jacki Weaver and Paul Giamatti as part of its ensemble cast. Ninjas Runnin’ Wild recently wrapped production on Are We Officially Dating?, an indie romantic comedy in which Efron stars with Miles Teller and Imogen Poots.

Goldsman is currently shooting his directorial debut, Winter’s Tale, in New York, working with a cast that includes Colin Farrell, Will Smith and Russell Crowe. He also is in post-production on Lone Survivor, Pete Berg’s tale of the tragic events of Operation Red Wing."

basically mte

He's clearly proving the people who typecasted him wrong. It does seem to be a pattern that most male actors get better roles as they get older.

I don't think he was ever content being a "Disney boy." When the rest of the HSM cast was enjoying their new found fame he just kinda looked over it. Clearly that was not where he wanted to be, so as a fan its great to see him truly making it now as an adult. Plus it seems he's stayed the sweet down to earth guy, so thats always a plus.

Slay those other ex-Disney stars Z. Go get those roles!
Can't help but root for this guy. He's stayed humble and deserves all the success that has and will come to him.

I didn't care about him during HSM, but the way he's been handling his career since then is remarkable. With him I feel it's much more about dedication to what he loves (acting) and recognition for his work, rather than fame or money like most of his ex-Disney peers that seem to love to be everywhere and do every pointless stuff. "Jack of all trades, master of none"? Certainly not him!
Keep the good work, Zack!
